Nobody correctly answered this week’s weather quiz question. What do “lake breezes” have to do with spiders? Here is the answer. In the summer of 1991, Chicago lake shore high-rise residents had to contend with an invasion of spiders. These arachnids, or “araneus serricatus,” may actually fly in across Lake Michigan. They are believed to spin little parachutes and waft across the lake on brisk easterly breezes, coming to rest on the tall buildings. The wind also blows smaller insects into the spiders’ new webs, providing a steady diet that enables some spiders to grow to be an inch across.

There will be another weekly weather quiz question starting next Monday.  The first person to answer correctly will win a free week of personalized forecasts tailored to your needs. Good luck.
