Sorry, no winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “Neap Tide?” Here is the correct answer. A Neap Tide is a minimum tide occurring at the first and third quarters of the moon. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

A broad upper level trough of low pressure (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) is moving eastward away from us. Following behind it is high pressure that will keep the clouds away and keep our weather dry with plenty of sunshine. That means the rest of the weekend will be equally terrific.

A broad upper level trough of low pressure (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) will continue to have an effect on us. It looks like the moisture expected to hang around through Saturday is vanishing. That means Saturday should be a really good day for the 2014 Prefontaine Classic. Partly cloudy and comfortable temperatures for the morning, then mostly sunny and warming in the afternoon. Most runners like some clouds and cooler temperatures for optimal running conditions and that’s what they should see Saturday morning.

A broad upper level trough of low pressure (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) will continue to have an effect on us. Two dry days then the chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday night.  That means Saturday should be a pretty good day for the 2014 Prefontaine Classic. There will be a a slight chance of an AM shower, but that wouldn’t bother the runners who have always told me they like clouds and cooler temperatures for optimal running conditions and aren’t bothered by a little light rain, except that the wet track could slow their times a bit.

An upper level low (Shaded”U” shape with blue arrows) was moving through the Pacific Northwest today keeping the chance of showers and possible thunderstorms alive. A high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) will dry us out by the end of the weekend. That means Saturday should be a pretty good day for the 2014 Prefontaine Classic, partly cloudy with a comfortable morning, then possibly a slight chance of an afternoon shower or thunderstorm, but that would be after most of the Classic would be over. Runners have always told me they like clouds and cooler temperatures for optimal running conditions and aren’t bothered by a little light rain, except that the wet track could slow their times a bit.
