Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. “What is a “Rear Flank Downdraft?” Here is the correct answer. A Rear Flank Downdraft is a region of dry air subsiding on the back side of, and wrapping around, a mesocyclone. It often is visible as a clear slot wrapping around the wall cloud. Scattered large precipitation particles (rain and hail) at the interface between the clear slot and wall cloud may show up on radar as a hook or pendant; thus the presence of a hook or pendant may indicate the presence of an RFD.

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. “What is a “Rear Flank Downdraft?” Here is the correct answer. A Rear Flank Downdraft is a region of dry air subsiding on the back side of, and wrapping around, a mesocyclone. It often is visible as a clear slot wrapping around the wall cloud. Scattered large precipitation particles (rain and hail) at the interface between the clear slot and wall cloud may show up on radar as a hook or pendant; thus the presence of a hook or pendant may indicate the presence of an RFD.

An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) is weakening and moving eastward away from us to be replaced by an Upper Level Low Pressure Trough.  The graphics for days 1-3  show the front that moved through and the next one right behind it. The graphics for days 3-7    Saturday through Wednesday show the frontal system moving across the Pacific Northwest Friday with another between Sunday and Monday.
