Sorry, no winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question one more time. What is the first thing you would notice at the beach when a Tsunami was approaching and what should you do? Here is the correct answer. As a Tsunami approaches the shallower waters at the shoreline it pulls the water offshore. What you see at the beach is a lot more beach. Often, mainly tourists, walk out onto this “extended beach” to collect seashells only to be crushed by the Tsunami wave and then drawn back out to sea as the wave retreats. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

Advisories: A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM TUESDAY FOR THE I-5 CORRIDOR FROM PORTLAND THROUGH EUGENE/SPRINGFIELD, THE WESTERN COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, THE NORTH OREGON CASCADE FOOTHILLS, THE CASCADE FOOTHILLS IN LANE COUNTY, AND THE HOOD RIVER VALLEY.

An upper level low pressure trough (Shaded “U” shape) is just offshore and will hold there for another day or so. A ridge of high pressure has been controlling our weather and low pressure will move in off the coast. For the 4th of July it looks like the upper level low will stay to our northwest over the Pacific Ocean and move just a little closer while high pressure that has been stuck from the Great Basin to us will waken just a it. That should keep the sunny and very warm conditions with us through July 3rd and as the high weakens enough or pushes just a bit to the east we will see the low start to take over a bit returning some clouds and cooling us a bit by Thursday the 4th. The high temperatures will cool enough to notice the difference for the 4th of July Holiday.

An upper level low (Shaded “U” shape) is just offshore and will hold there for another day or so. A short-lived ridge of high pressure will start clearing us up late in the week through weekend, then low pressure moves in early next week. A frontal system has pushed through Oregon spreading more showers ahead of and with it. A frontal system will stall offshore and eventually fall apart as it is caught in the southerly flow of the low stuck along the coast. It’s still too early to make a accurate weather prediction for the 4th of July.

An upper level low (Shaded “U” shape) is just offshore and moving slowly eastward over the Pacific Northwest. A frontal system moved through Oregon spreading showers ahead of it and a second front is right behind it. We’ll see a frontal system move in Thursday and another one right behind it will push in Saturday keeping the chance of showers with us. It’s still too early to make a accurate weather prediction for the 4th of July.
