Preview Weather Forecast for the Pac-12 Championship Game Friday:

Ducks vs UCLA at Autzen Stadium Kickoff 5 PM – Partly cloudy 45 cooling into the upper 30s throughout the game. Bundle up, it will get quite chilly.

It’s time for my weekly weather quiz question. The Hurricane season officially ends today so I thought one more hurricane question was in order. Here it is. Only two Category 5 hurricanes with winds over 155 mph hit the USA between 1900 and 1996. What were their names? Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

Advisories:  AN AIR STAGNATION ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 4 AM THURSDAY UNTIL 4 AM TUESDAY FOR CENTRAL DOUGLAS COUNTY, EASTERN CURRY COUNTY, JOSEPHINE COUNTY, JACKSON COUNTY, THE KLAMATH BASIN, NORTHERN AND EASTERN KLAMATH COUNTY, AND WESTERN LAKE COUNTY.

________________

A  cold front moved through Oregon returning the moisture flow for just a chance of precipitation for a short period of time. A high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape on the jet stream) is moving toward us and the airflow will dry us out and return the sunshine. So, for the better part of the next 6 days we’ll see sunshine after the late night and early AM fog clears out. That also means that our air quality will suffer with the sinking air of high pressure holding on to the pollutants at the surface.

Advisories:  A HIGH WIND WARNING IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 AM TODAY FOR THE NORTH AND CENTRAL OREGON COAST.

________________

A high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape on the jet stream) is moving away from us and the airflow behind it will feed moisture our way. A frontal system (shown offshore) will push through today bringing back the rain, then a break as high pressure takes over again. Upper air low pressure (“U” shape on the jet stream) will return the moisture flow Tuesday night and Wednesday sending more rain into the Pacific Northwest.

No winner for this week’s weather quiz question.

________________

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. The weather has played an important role in Presidential Inaugurations in the United States. In what year was the hottest Inauguration day and who became President? Here is the answer. The hottest U.S. Presidential Inauguration Day was July 10, 1850 when Vice President Millard Fillmore  became president after Zachary Taylor died. I’ll have another weekly quiz question for you starting next Monday. Good luck.

Here is the weather forecast for the Oregon Civil War today at Autzen Stadium The Ducks vs The Beavers:

Kickoff 12:30 PM – A mix of clouds and sun, temperature hovering from the upper 40s to around 53. Wind S 5-10 mph.

________________

A strong upper air trough of low pressure (“U” shape in the jet stream is moving eastward away from us.  A frontal system pushed through Oregon bringing a last push of moisture. A high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape on the jet stream) will clear things out a bit. An upper level trough of low pressure will line up offshore and a cold front (shown offshore) will push through Sunday, then a break, then more frontal systems will appear by next weekend. For the skiers Hoodoo is now open, but Willamette Pass ski area announced it will not be able to open the season yet due to recent rainfall. Check their websites for updates).
