I have lived all over the country and have experienced just about every kind of natural disaster there is except a tsunami (I never lived near the coast). I grew up in Rochester, New York, where we had long snowy winters and long hot and humid summers. Many hurricanes passed by on their way to the colder waters of the Canadian Maritimes where they usually wither and fall apart. They would say we got the “tail end” of the hurricanes. Actually we got strong winds, heavy rains, and thunderstorms as they passed by.  One snow storm in 1966 produced snow waist deep in the middle of my street. It took two days before my street was plowed out and usually the roads were cleared as the storms progressed. See this YouTube story to see what it was like. Makes you glad to live in Oregon, except for that 1969 snow storm. Blizzard of 1966

Feel free to share your disaster stories as I will give you part 2 tomorrow.
