An upper level high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) will be sending us airflow from the Northwest then another upper level trough of low pressure (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) moves in behind it. The days 1-3 graphic shows the storm that moisture will still be moving over us with some warmer air. A lot of the ice melted Saturday, but cold overnight temperatures could freeze what is still wet this morning. The combination of the branches rising with melting and being refrozen could result in more trees and branches  falling. The graphic for days 3-7 shows the next storms headed our way Tuesday and Thursday. For mountain snow conditions at the local ski areas check out their websites or give them a call.

Note: Just in case you haven’t noticed “THIS ISN”T WINTER YET!” The Winter Solstice falls on Thursday December 22nd at 2:44 AM PST. I hope this current weather pattern isn’t the precursor to a very active Winter Storm season.

An upper air low pressure trough (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows is still in control of our weather, But a high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) will fall in behind returning the much missed sunshine for a while. The days 1-3 graphic shows the storm that brought all of the moisture to mix with cold air to produce the icy weather over all of our area has moved away. With overnight and early AM temperatures remaining well below freezing, I’m afraid more trees and branches will most likely fall. The graphic for days 3-7 shows the next storm headed our way Tuesday and another one moving toward us next Thursday. For mountain snow conditions at the local ski areas check out their websites or give them a call. With the potential of significant snowfall and mixed precipitation you’d be wise to judge carefully when and if you need to drive during the next 12 hours or so of this storm.

NOTE: If you noticed that your forecasts were not updated here late Wednesday night through Thursday afternoon there was a very good reason called ” a power outage.” Trees were down in my neighborhood and kept falling down. The power went out early Wednesday evening and wasn’t restored until 4:30 PM Thursday. A big round of applause should be given to the dedicated EWEB repair crews who tackled a GIGANTIC job and succeeded! Some people probably still don’t have their power back, but they need to know that there are many people working feverishly to get the power back on as quickly and safely as possible.

Swallowing water while swimming or inhaling water droplets as a result of high-speed water activities, such as water skiing and power boating, should be avoided in areas where blooms are identified. Although toxins are not absorbed through the skin, contact with cells from a bloom can cause skin irritation and a red, puffy rash in individuals with skin sensitivities, or those who develop rashes easily.

The Upper level airflow will keep the moisture pouring into the Pacific Northwest. The days 1-3 graphic shows a stationary front that  gets pushed southward toward us and a storm system moving toward us from the Southwest.  The graphic for days 3-7 shows then next storm headed our way from the Northwest next Tuesday.   • A Blue-Green Algae Health Advisory remains in effect for Agency Lake. Agency Lake is located just north of Upper Klamath Lake near Klamath Falls along Highway 97 in Klamath County. Water monitoring on the lake has confirmed the presence of high levels of blue-green algae and associated toxins that can be harmful to people and animals. Swallowing water while swimming or inhaling water droplets as a result of high-speed water activities, such as water skiing and power boating, should be avoided in areas where blooms are identified. Although toxins are not absorbed through the skin, contact with cells from a bloom can cause skin irritation and a red, puffy rash in individuals with skin sensitivities, or those who develop rashes easily.

The Upper level airflow will keep the moisture pouring into the Pacific Northwest. The days 1-3 graphic shows a stationary front that  gets pushed southward toward us. That frontal system is commonly called a “backdoor” front because it moves in from the opposite direction from which fronts usually come toward us, through the Pacific Northwest to bring in colder air. The graphic for days 3-7 shows then next storms headed our war. We’re still seeing snow accumulations increasing in the mountains.   • A HIGH WIND WATCH IS IN EFFECT FROM WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH LATE WEDNESDAY NIGHT FOR NORTHERN AND EASTERN KLAMATH COUNTY, AND WESTERN, CENTRAL AND EASTERN LAKE COUNTY.
  • A Permanent Health Advisory remains in effect for the South Umpqua River and Lawson Bar. Pools in the bedrock along the rivers edge are known to develop Blue-green Algae (cyanobacterial) blooms that can be harmful to pets and people if accidental ingestion occurs. Signs have been posted along several access areas along the river.
  • A Blue-Green Algae Health Advisory remains in effect for Agency Lake. Agency Lake is located just north of Upper Klamath Lake near Klamath Falls along Highway 97 in Klamath County. Water monitoring on the lake has confirmed the presence of high levels of blue-green algae and associated toxins that can be harmful to people and animals. Swallowing water while swimming or inhaling water droplets as a result of high-speed water activities, such as water skiing and power boating, should be avoided in areas where blooms are identified. Although toxins are not absorbed through the skin, contact with cells from a bloom can cause skin irritation and a red, puffy rash in individuals with skin sensitivities, or those who develop rashes easily.
