ADVISORIES:

  • A RED FLAG WARNING IS IN EFFECT FROM 2 PM UNTIL 9 PM TODAY FOR ABUNDANT LIGHTNING FOR THE CENTRAL MOUNTAINS  OF OREGON.
  • A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM TODAY FOR THE EASTERN COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE OF OREGON
  • A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM TODAY FOR THE LOWER COLUMBIA BASIN OF OREGON.
  • A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM TODAY FOR THE FOOTHILLS OF THE NORTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON,  THE FOOTHILLS OF THE SOUTHERN BLUE MOUNTAINS OF OREGON, AND NORTH CENTRAL OREGON.
  • A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM MDT UNTIL 8 PM MDT TODAY FOR THE OREGON LOWER TREASURE VALLEY.

HEALTH ADVISORIES:

  • A RECREATION HEALTH ADVISORY HAS BEEN ISSUED FOR LAKE BILLY CHINOOK, PEOPLE SHOULD AVOID SWIMMING AND HIGH SPEED WATER ACTIVITIES SUCH AS WATER SKIING OR POWER BOATING IN AREAS WHERE BLOOMS ARE PRESENT AS THE MAJOR ROUTE OF EXPOSURE IS INGESTION OF WATER, OREGON HEALTH OFFICIALS SAID. TOXINS ARE NOT ABSORBED THROUGH THE SKIN, THOUGH THOSE WITH SKIN SENSITIVITIES MAY DEVELOP A PUFFY RED RASH. THE OREGON HEALTH AUTHORITY ENCOURAGED PEOPLE TO VISIT LAKE BILLY CHINOOK FOR ACTIVITIES SUCH AS FISHING, CAMPING, HIKING, BIKING, PICNICKING, BIRD WATCHING, CANOEING, AND KAYAKING. BOATING IS SAFE AS LONG AS SPEEDS DO NOT CREATE EXCESSIVE WATER SPRAY, WHICH COULD LEAD TO THE RISK OF INHALING CYANOTOXINS.
  • A PERMANENT HEALTH ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FOR THE SOUTH UMPQUA RIVER BAR. POOLS IN THE BEDROCK ALONG THE RIVERS EDGE ARE KNOWN TO DEVELOP BLUE-GREEN ALGAE (CYANOBACTERIAL) BLOOMS THAT CAN BE HARMFUL TO PETS AND PEOPLE IF ACCIDENTAL INGESTION OCCURS. SIGNS HAVE BEEN POSTED ALONG SEVERAL ACCESS AREAS ALONG THE  RIVER.
