Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is an “ Easterly Wave?” Here is the correct answer. An Easterly Wave is a low level disturbance of tropical origins. Easterly waves can develop into tropical cyclones. However, tropical cyclone development is not required in order for these systems to produce significant amounts of rainfall. Another upper level low is pushing in from the West continuing the flow of moisture to the Pacific Northwest. A frontal system pushes in bringing cooler air in behind the cold front. Local skiers should be celebrating. The mountains have a lot of new snow and Mt. Ashland has already started their season. Willamette Pass and Hoodoo open officially today with night skiing starting Monday December 21st at Hoodoo. Check their websites for updates.

Another upper level low is headed toward the Pacific Northwest returning the wet weather.  A frontal system (shown to the northwest) will slide in Wednesday increasing the rain chances. Yet another frontal system pushes in by the end of the week. Local skiers should be celebrating. The mountains have a lot of new snow so the chance of more local ski slopes opening is now certain. Mt. Ashland started their season Monday. Willamette Pass and Hoodoo report their opening date will be Friday December 18th with night skiing starting Monday December 21st at Hoodoo. Check their websites for updates.

An upper level low is slowly migrating eastward away from the Pacific Northwest continuing our wet weather. It’s back to wet weather by Wednesday.  Another frontal system pushes in by the end of the week. Local skiers should be celebrating. The mountains have a lot of new snow so the chance of more local ski slopes opening is now certain. Mt. Ashland started their season Monday. Willamette Pass reports tentative opening date this Friday December 18th. Hoodoo reports their opening date will also be Friday December 18th with night skiing starting Monday December 21st. Check their websites for updates.
