What is  “orographic lifting?” Here is the correct answer. Orographic Lifting is the same as Upslope Flow; it occurs when air is forced to rise and cool due to terrain features such as hills or mountains. An upper level low (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) is moving in behind that high which gave us some sunshine Friday. A frontal system will be pushed into Oregon today ushering in more rain. It looks like you could get wet at either of the home football games Saturday whether you are in Autzen Stadium or Reser Stadium. An upper level low (“Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) moved through the Pacific giving us showers and cool temperatures.  Short-lived high pressure (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows on previous graphic) moves in for today, then low pressure returns the chance of rain by nightfall. A frontal system will approach the coast by Saturday increasing our rain chance even more.
