The graphics for days 1-3 show a frontal system moving through overnight and today. Note: Lane County residents will have to wait until Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at the earliest for the opening of the fall outdoor burning season. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “Storm Surge?” Here is the correct answer.  A Storm Surge is an abnormal rise in sea level accompanying a hurricane or other intense storm, whose height is the difference between the observed level of the sea surface and the level that would have occurred in the absence of the cyclone. Storm surge is usually estimated by subtracting the normal or astronomic tide from the observed storm tide.
