Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is “the chromosphere?” Here is the correct answer. The Chromosphere In solar-terrestrial terms, is the layer of the solar atmosphere above the photosphere and beneath the transition region and the corona. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

A blocking high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shaped with blue arrows) has settled over the Pacific Northwest. Cold Canadian air has dried us out and given us the coldest temperatures of the season so far, particularly at night. Remember to be careful in the mountains due to the new snowfall and potentially icy driving conditions. A frontal system will be on its way to the Oregon coast Monday bringing back the slight chance of rain by Monday afternoon.

An upper level low (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) is moving eastward with cold high pressure (Shaded “Arch” shape) moving in to settle over the Pacific Northwest. A frontal system has been pushed down at us from the northwest. Behind that front is cold Canadian air that will give us the coldest temperatures of the season so far.
