Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is “Sublimation”? Sublimation is the transition of a substance from the solid phase directly to the vapor phase, or vice versa, without passing through an intermediate liquid phase. Thus an ice crystal or icicle sublimes under low relative humidity at temperatures below 0°C. The process is analogous to evaporation of a liquid.

An Upper Level High Pressure Ridge (“Arch” shape) is moving toward the coast. The graphics for days 1-3 show a cold front offshore pushing through today and Sunday. The graphics for days 3-7   Tuesday through Saturday show a warm front pushing northward through the Pacific Northwest Thursday followed by it’s associated cold front sliding through between Friday.

Note: Lane County residents will have to wait until Friday, November 1, 2024, at the earliest for the opening of the fall outdoor burning season. The season is typically scheduled to start on October 1st each year. However, the decision to delay has been jointly made by the Lane County Fire Defense Board and the Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF).
