Here again is this week’s weather quiz question. Wind does actually “whistle through the wires.” What is the name given to the distinct musical or humming sounds made by the wind? Please place your answer as a comment on this page. The first person to post the correct answer will win one week of personalized forecasts tailored to your needs.

_______________

Just remember, if you listen to all of the “Groundhog” reports you still won’t have a forecast for the Pacific Northwest. What do “Phil” and “General Lee” or any of the others know about our marine climate? Nothing! Flip a coin and you will have the same chance of getting it right as they do. You have to remember that “Phil” doesn’t even do his own forecasting. They have a committee that decides the result the night before so they can have the proclamation already printed out. Just think, with all of those lights for TV aimed at him how could he not see his shadow. The event is just to take one’s mind away from the winter weather. If what we have been experiencing is “winter” then six more weeks of this will beat most of the rest of the country’s winter storms. Just my viewpoint.

_______________

The “El Nino” weather pattern will continue to control our weather keeping us above normal for temperatures and below normal for precipitation. An upper level trough of low pressure (see blue arrows over the Pacific Northwest forming the letter “U”) is sending a new storm system our way. This week we will see a parade of weak storm systems moving through Oregon instead of California.
