Here is my weekly weather quiz question. What is an “undertow?” Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Advisories: A HEAT ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM TUESDAY FOR THE I-5 CORRIDOR FROM PORTLAND THROUGH EUGENE/SPRINGFIELD, THE WESTERN COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, THE NORTH OREGON CASCADE FOOTHILLS, THE CASCADE FOOTHILLS IN LANE COUNTY, AND THE HOOD RIVER VALLEY.
An upper level low pressure trough (Shaded “U” shape) is just offshore and will hold there for another day or so. A ridge of high pressure has been controlling our weather and low pressure will move in off the coast. For the 4th of July it looks like the upper level low will stay to our northwest over the Pacific Ocean and move just a little closer while high pressure that has been stuck from the Great Basin to us will waken just a it. That should keep the sunny and very warm conditions with us through July 3rd and as the high weakens enough or pushes just a bit to the east we will see the low start to take over a bit returning some clouds and cooling us a bit by Thursday the 4th. The high temperatures will cool enough to notice the difference for the 4th of July Holiday.
