Advisories: There is a Blue-Green Algae warning that continues for Dexter Reservoir and Dorena Reservoir has just been added to the list. Water monitoring has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae that can produce toxins, state public health officials said. The algae levels are likely associated with dangerous cyanotoxin concentrations in the water that can be harmful to humans and animals. Swallowing or inhaling water droplets, as well as skin contact with water, should be avoided according to the authorities.

An upper level low (“U” shape with blue arrows) is moving slowly to the North away from us. High pressure will spread our way from the southeast to clear us out. A weakening cold front will fall apart as it moved through Oregon today. Another low is starting its journey toward the Oregon coast later this week. A frontal system will push down from the north in the middle of next week and it looks like it will only cool us down a bit.

A weakening cold front will fall apart as it moves through Oregon tonight and Thursday. Another low is starting its journey toward the Oregon coast later this week.

The Perseid meteor shower is in progress. The maximum number of “shooting stars” from the comet Swift-Tuttle will be visible very early this morning, before sunrise. There could have been as many as 50 sighted per hour as they move from the NE quadrant of the sky, but now that number is diminishing rapidly. For best viewing go to where there are no city lights to brighten the sky. You also need for the clouds to clear off, at least a bit, so you can see the sky. The meteor shower will continue for the next few days, but the number you might see will slowly taper off.

As it keeps moving away the airflow will not support producing thunderstorms that could move through the area. High pressure will spread our way from the southeast to clear us out. Another low is starting its journey toward the Oregon coast later this week.

The Perseid meteor shower is in progress. The maximum number of “shooting stars” from the comet Swift-Tuttle will be visible after midnight tonight through Tuesday. There could be as many as 50 sighted per hour as they move from the NE quadrant of the sky. For best viewing go to where there are no city lights to brighten the sky. You also need for the clouds to clear off, at least a bit, so you can see the sky.

No winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What or where is “Pangea?” Here is the correct answer. This definition is from Britanica.com:

Pangea, also spelled Pangaea,  in early geologic time, a “supercontinent” that incorporated almost all of Earth’s landmasses and covered nearly one-third of Earth’s surface. It was surrounded by a global ocean called Panthalassa. Pangea was fully assembled by the Early Permian Period, some 270 million years ago. It began to break apart about 200 million years ago, during the Early Jurassic Period, eventually forming the modern continents and the Atlantic and Indian Oceans. The existence of the Pangean supercontinent was first proposed in 1912 by the German meteorologist Alfred Wegener as a part of his theory of continental drift. Pangea’s name is derived from the Greek pangaia, meaning “all the Earth.” I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.
