Advisories:

  • A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM TODAY FOR THE COAST RANGE OF NORTHWEST  OREGON.
  • A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 12 PM TODAY FOR THE WESTERN COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, THE CENTRAL COLUMBIA RIVER GORGE, AND UNTIL 2 PM THIS AFTERNOON THE UPPER HOOD RIVER VALLEY.
  • A Blue-Green Algae warning  has been cancelled for Tenmile Lakes in Coos County and for Fern Ridge Reservoir, the warning remains in effect for Lost Creek Lake, and Willow Creek Reservoir (NE Oregon). Water monitoring has confirmed the presence of blue-green algae that can produce toxins, state public health officials said. The algae levels are likely associated with dangerous cyanotoxin concentrations in the water that can be harmful to humans and animals. Swallowing or inhaling water droplets, as well as skin contact with water, should be avoided according to the authorities.

________________

The upper airflow has become a ridge of high pressure that will keep us in colder air for a day or two.. A frontal system moved through the Pacific Northwest bringing clouds and the chance of light rain and drizzle with it. Colder air will sweep in behind it.

  • AN AIR STAGNATION ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 PM TODAY FOR CENTRAL DOUGLAS COUNTY, EASTERN CURRY COUNTY, JOSEPHINE COUNTY, THE EASTERN DOUGLAS COUNTY FOOTHILLS, JACKSON COUNTY, THE KLAMATH BASIN, NORTHERN AND EASTERN KLAMATH COUNTY, WESTERN, CENTRAL AND EASTERN LAKE COUNTY.
  • A Blue-Green Algae warning  has been cancelled for Tenmile Lakes in Coos County, but continues for Fern Ridge Reservoir, Lost Creek Lake, and Willow Creek Reservoir (NE Oregon).

The upper airflow has become a ridge of high pressure that will keep us milder for a while.   The inversion it is causing (warmer air trapped above the colder air) the dense fog that we’ve been seeing. A frontal system is moving through the Pacific Northwest bringing clouds and the chance of light rain and drizzle with it.

Advisories:

  • A DENSE FOG ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON TODAY FOR CENTRAL DOUGLAS COUNTY, EASTERN CURRY COUNTY, JOSEPHINE COUNTY, AND JACKSON COUNTY.
  • AN AIR STAGNATION ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM THURSDAY FOR CENTRAL DOUGLAS COUNTY, EASTERN CURRY COUNTY, JOSEPHINE COUNTY, THE EASTERN DOUGLAS COUNTY FOOTHILLS, JACKSON COUNTY, THE KLAMATH BASIN, NORTHERN AND EASTERN KLAMATH COUNTY, WESTERN, CENTRAL AND EASTERN LAKE COUNTY.
  • A Blue-Green Algae warning  has been cancelled for Tenmile Lakes in Coos County, but continues for Fern Ridge Reservoir, Lost Creek Lake, and Willow Creek Reservoir (NE Oregon).

The upper airflow has become a ridge of high pressure that will keep us mild for a while.  A weak frontal system fell apart as it slid through Oregon giving us the chance of showers. The snow is still present in the hills, but it is melting away slowly.

Sorry no winner this week. Here is my new weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “storm surge?” Here is the correct answer. A Storm Surge is an abnormal rise in sea level accompanying a hurricane or other intense storm, whose height is the difference between the observed level of the sea surface and the level that would have occurred in the absence of the cyclone. Storm surge is usually estimated by subtracting the normal or astronomic tide from the observed storm tide. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.
