Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is “Zonal Flow ?” Here is the correct answer. Zonal Flow is large-scale atmospheric flow in which the east-west component (i.e., latitudinal) is dominant. The accompanying meridional (north-south) component often is weaker than normal. Compare with meridional flow. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper level low (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) will continue to slide through the Pacific Northwest. An upper level high pressure ridge will take over bringing back the sunshine Monday and warming us up for the rest of the week.

An upper level low (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) continues an increased onshore flow that has cooled us down considerably. Weak high pressure (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) tries to take over, but low pressure quickly moves in. A weak frontal system  brings just a chance of some shower tonight through the weekend.

An upper level low Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) will be replacing the high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows). That means an increased onshore flow that will cool us down considerably. It looks like rather pleasant weather for the Lane County Fair that begins today and continues through Sundaybut there will be just a slight chance of showers Saturday and Sunday.
