Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “Return Stroke?” Here is the correct answer. A Return Stroke is an electrical discharge that propagates upward along a lightning channel from the ground to the cloud. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper level high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) will slowly weaken, tilt to the northwest and move eastward allowing an upper level low (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) to move toward the Pacific Northwest. A surface frontal system is on its way to us now. A frontal system will be located offshore on Wednesday morning ready to move in. Another frontal system heads our way Friday. By next weekend we’ll have yet another frontal system bearing down on us.

An upper level high pressure ridge will slowly weaken and move eastward allowing a weak disturbance to slide in Friday just cooling us down a bit, but only a slight chance of rain. A frontal system will bring more cool air into the Pacific Northwest Saturday and again only a slight chance of rain. More frontal systems will line up to bring a little better chance or rain to Oregon.
