Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is “Active Storage Capacity?” Here is the correct answer. Active Storage Capacity: In hydrologic terms, the total amount of reservoir capacity normally available for release from a reservoir below the maximum storage level. It is total or reservoir capacity minus inactive storage capacity. More specifically, it is the volume of water between the outlet works and the spillway crest. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer at the bottom of this page. An email will not suffice. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs.  Good luck.

An elongated Upper Level Low Pressure Trough has moved through, but the high pressure behind it (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) is sending cold air down to us from Canada. The days 1-3 graphic shows a surface low and frontal system that moved Southward through the Pacific Northwest ushering in colder air. There will be some precipitation, but so far there shouldn’t be enough moisture to bring any more than just a light dusting of snow for the South Willamette Valley, if that much. The graphic for days 3-7 shows another frontal system that will be headed our way Friday into Saturday next week.  For mountain snow conditions at the local ski areas check out their websites or give them a call.
