The weak, flat high pressure ridge that brought the sunshine to the Valley early today is being replaced by low pressure (the “U” shaped dip in the jet stream over the Pacific Ocean). There will be some sunshine early in the week, Monday and Tuesday, but by Tuesday night and Wednesday a new frontal system will be moving through. If that’s not enough for you another frontal system will be approaching from the northwest by sometime Thursday .

The upper level airflow from over the Pacific Ocean is still pumping waves of moisture into the Pacific Northwest.  A weak storm system has moved through the Pacific Northwest. That doesn’t mean a perfect weekend. There will be sunshine on today because of weak high pressure, but it will be short lived. By tonight, you guessed it, the chance of rain will return. That’s why I kept mentioning all week the chance of precipitation would hang around to at least some degree for the weekend. There will be some sunshine early in the week, but by Wednesday a new storm system will be moving through.

Just in case you missed it we had a winner for my weekly weather quiz on Monday. I’ll have a new quiz question for you next Monday. Remember t he first person to post the correct answer wins a week of free personalized forecasts tailored to your needs. Here is my post after the correct answer was posted. We have a winner already. Congratulations Jamie. You are the first person to post the correct answer. Here is my weekly weather weather quiz question one more time. How did the sun make the lights go out in Canada over 20 years ago?  Here is what Jamie posted. “Hi Tim i know the answer to the question would be a solar flair that made the suns lights go out in canda two years ago.” The particular incident I was referring to happened in 1989. There have been others. An unprecedented geomagnetic storm in March of 1989 blacked out electricity to over six million Canadians. The intense magnetic fields induced current overloads in the transmission system, blowing fuses and breakers.

_______________

The upper level airflow from over the Pacific Ocean is pumping more waves of moisture into the Pacific Northwest.  A frontal system moved through Oregon into Montana decreasing the rain chance for a while.  A second  storm system (off to the west over the Pacific Ocean) will move in between late tonight and Friday, and if we are lucky, after its passage  it should be drier over the weekend, with maybe a just a slight chance of sprinkles Saturday night and Sunday into early next week. With the record rainfalls we have seen recently it would be nice to get at least some sunshine and dry weather.

The upper level airflow from over the Pacific Ocean is pumping moisture into the Pacific Northwest.  The next frontal system (just sliding into the coast) will bring us some heavy rain. A second  frontal system (shown: position on Friday) will move in and if we are lucky, after its passage,  it might be drier over the end of the weekend, with maybe a slight chance of sprinkles on Sunday.

I’ll have another weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Remember the first person to post the correct answer will win one week of free personalized weather forecasts  tailored to your needs.

The upper level airflow from over the Pacific Ocean is sliding into the Pacific Northwest.  A cold front has moved through Oregon and is still keeping us cooler and wetter than normal. Yet another storm system (shown: position on Thursday) will be upon us for Wednesday and, you guessed it, it will keep us cooler and wetter than normal.
