Here is my new weekly weather quiz question. Nine people have died and 11 were injured in the state of Oregon from 1887 to 1995 due to what kind of weather events? Please place your answer as a comment after the forecasts on this page. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. Good luck.

A cold front moved through Eastern Oregon and behind it  a high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape over the Pacific  Northwest) will  warm us up for a while then an upper level low (“U” shaped area in the jet stream) will slide in behind the ridge. Look for another cold front to roll across Oregon on Thursday bringing back the chance of precipitation.

Sorry no winner for this week’s weekly weather quiz question. Major flooding occurred along the Northeast Coast of the U.S. in the summer of 1972 causing a 500-year flood in Elmira, New Your and other locations. What was the main cause of this flooding? You’ll get extra praise if you can explain a secondary cause for all of the rain that fell. The main cause of the flooding was a tropical depression that was Hurricane Agnes. The secondary cause was a cold front that became stationary along the Canadian border with New York and New England that dumped rain on the Northeast for a full week before what was left of Agnes moved in. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs.

A  high pressure ridge (shaded “Arch” shape over the Pacific and the Northwest) is moving away from us. Low pressure is falling in behind the ridge bringing back cooler rainy weather. A cold front is bringing the chance of rain back by late today. Look for another stronger cold front to roll across Oregon on Sunday bringing an even better chance of precipitation back after Columbus Day.

Here again is this week’s weekly weather quiz question. Major flooding occurred along the Northeast Coast of the U.S. in the summer of 1972 causing a 500-year flood in Elmira, New Your and other locations. What was the main cause of this flooding? You’ll get extra praise if you can explain a secondary cause for all of the rain that fell. Please place your answer as a comment after the forecasts on this page. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. Good luck.

A  high pressure ridge (shaded “Arch” shape over the Pacific and the Northwest Coast) is moving in behind the upper level low pressure trough (shaded “U” area moving away from us. That adds up to more sunshine and a bit warmer for a short while. There are some clouds spinning around an upper level low over California. For the most part those clouds and associated showers will stay in Eastern Oregon, but some could manage to survive the trip over the Cascades to Western Oregon. A weak cold front will bring back a chance of showers Friday. Look for another stronger cold front to roll across Oregon on Sunday bringing the chance of precipitation back into Columbus Day.
