Time for my new weekly weather quiz question. Here it is. This time we’ll have a weather and the movies question. In the famous 1952 Gene Kelly movie “Singin’ in the Rain” the rain that fell wasn’t just water because the water didn’t show up well enough on film. What was added to the falling water to make it look more like rain? Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

Advisories:  A HIGH SURF ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM TONIGHT UNTIL 11 AM WEDNESDAY FOR THE SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTH OREGON COAST.

________________

A weak high pressure ridge (“arch” forming on the orange jet stream line) will build up just long enough to give us two dry days. A frontal system pushed through Oregon bringing some pretty heavy showers with it.

Sorry, no winner this week.

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. This is an easy “Fall” question. What makes the leaves lose their green color and fall off of the trees? Three factors influence autumn leaf color-leaf pigments, length of night, and weather, but not quite in the way we think. The timing of color change and leaf fall are primarily regulated by the calendar, that is, the increasing length of night. None of the other environmental influences-temperature, rainfall, food supply, and so on-are as unvarying as the steadily increasing length of night during autumn. As days grow shorter, and nights grow longer and cooler, biochemical processes in the leaf begin to paint the landscape with Nature’s autumn palette. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday.

Your Saturday College Football Forecast: The Beavers vs Arizona at Reser Stadium: Kickoff 12:30 PM Partly cloudy with increasing clouds late in the afternoon, light winds, temperature near 60 warming to near 68 by the end of the game. With any luck it will stay dry until the evening when the precipitation chance returns.

An upper air trough of low pressure (“U” shape on the orange jet stream line) is moving to the east and high pressure (“arch” shape) will help dry us out for just a bit today. A frontal system will move in along with another low pressure trough setting up along the coast bringing back more clouds and precipitation.
