Sorry, no winner in this weeks weather quiz question.

________________

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. About 7,700 years ago Oregon’s 12,000 ft. tall Mt. Mazama erupted and its caldera collapsed. The caldera filled with water to become the second deepest (1,958 ft.) lake in North America. How long did it take to fill the caldera and form what we know as Crater Lake? Here is the answer. Scientists estimate that it took just under 740 years to fill up the crater from rain and snow fall. The only reason the crater doesn’t overflow is that northern rim has a layer of permeable rock where water can leak out. I’ll have another weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

Advisories:  A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM SUNDAY FOR THE NORTH OREGON CASCADES INCLUDING THE CASCADES OF LANE COUNTY. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 11 PM TONIGHT FOR THE SOUTH CENTRAL OREGON CASCADES. A WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 AM SUNDAY ABOVE 3,500 FT. FOR EASTERN CURRY COUNTY AND JOSEPHINE COUNTY.

________________

For the rest of the week into the weekend another upper air trough of low pressure (“U” shape on yellow line) will be offshore pumping moisture our way, then it will start to move inland. A frontal system will move through tonight, then a series of frontal systems like this one will keep the chance of precipitation around. Mountain snow levels will fall well below pass levels making for possible slippery roadways. A REMINDER: We will go back to Standard time THIS WEEKEND (Fall back one hour officially at 2 AM Sunday).

It’s time for my new weekly weather quiz question. Here it is. I’ll have another weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

For the rest of the week into the weekend another upper air trough of low pressure (“U” shape on yellow line) will be offshore and one frontal system moved through Wednesday night and this AM, then a series of frontal systems like this one will keep the chance of precipitation around. Mountain snow levels will fall well below pass levels making for slippery roadways by Friday. A REMINDER: We will go back to Standard time NEXT WEEKEND (Fall back one hour officially at 2 AM Sunday November 6th).
