Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time.  Define “Biometeorology?” Here is the answer. Biometeorology is the interdisciplinary field of science that studies the interactions between the biosphere and the Earth’s atmosphere on time scales of the order of seasons or shorter (by opposition to bioclimatology). To put it simply it is the study of how the weather effects the human body. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

trough of low pressure (“U” shape on the jet stream) is sliding southward and eastward heading our way. A weak high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape on yellow line) has cleared us out enough to area to give us plenty of sunshine for the afternoon. Another frontal system will be aimed at us over the weekend bringing more rain. As the temperatures rise we’ll get rid of all of this snow on the valley floor, but that will also increase the flood potential from melting snow and falling rain.

Another trough of low pressure (“U” shape on the jet stream) is sliding southward and eastward pusing frontal systems our way. A frontal system pushing through Oregon has spread snow in the valleys and heavy snow that will continue to fall in the mountains and foothills.  That front has stalled and it’s lack of movement is what will keep generating more snow. Another frontal system will be aimed at us Saturday bringing more rain. When the temperatures rise we’ll get all of this snow, but that will also increase the flood potential from melting snow and falling rain.
