A high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape on the yellow line ) gave us just a slight chance of sprinkles Saturday and Easter Sunday. The ridge will be replaced by a low pressure area (“U” shape on the yellow line) which will increase the chance of rain for the rest of the week. A frontal system will be moving through Oregon. Yet another frontal system (position shown is Thursday)  will approach the coast and push through more rain.

Sorry, but nobody correctly answered my weekly weather quiz question. Here it is for the last time. What is a “sundog”? A sun dog or sundog, scientific name parhelion (plural parhelia) from Greek (parlion), meaning “beside the sun”; from (para), meaning “beside”, and (helios), meaning “sun”, also called a mock sun[1] or a phantom sun,[2] is an atmospheric phenomenon that creates bright spots of light in the sky, often on a luminous ring or halo on either side of the sun.[3] Sundogs may appear as a colored patch of light to the left or right of the sun, 22° distant and at the same distance above the horizon as the sun, and in ice halos. They can be seen anywhere in the world during any season, but they are not always obvious or bright. Sundogs are best seen and are most conspicuous when the sun is low. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you Monday. Advisories: A FROST ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 AM UNTIL 8 AM TODAY FOR THE SOUTH CENTRAL AND SOUTH OREGON COAST.

________________

A upper level low pressure trough (“U” shape on the yellow line) is moving eastward across the Pacific Northwest.  A high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape on the yellow line over Western Canada) will give us drier weather for most of the Easter weekend. The serious chance of rain should hold off until late Sunday afternoon, if we are lucky, but be prepared to cover up if this new frontal system (position shown is Monday) approaches the coast sooner than expected.
