No winner. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. Define the term “inversion.” Here is the correct answer. Inversion (abbrev. INVRN) Generally, a departure from the usual increase or decrease in an atmospheric property with altitude. Specifically it almost always refers to a temperature inversion, i.e., an increase in temperature with height, or to the layer within which such an increase occurs. An inversion is present in the lower part of a cap. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

________________

Upper level Low Pressure (Shaded “Oval” shape, then “U” shape) has replaced the high pressure returning the much cooler onshore airflow. A weak cold front returned the chance for showers. Another frontal system (position shown is Monday) will move in Sunday increasing our rain chances. Football forecast for the Ducks Spring Game today. Kickoff 11:00 AM- Mostly cloudy 55 degrees warming to the low 60s by the end of the game- just a slight chance of rain, then rain chance  increasing to a 40% chance in the afternoon, so it probably won’t rain at Autzen Stadium during the game.

An upper level high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch”shape with blue arrows) has taken control of our weather producing warmer offshore airflow.  Look for plenty of sunshine and very warm temperatures for your Thursday. Upper level Low Pressure (Shaded “Oval” shape, then “U” shape) will replace the high pressure and return the much cooler onshore airflow. By Friday night into Saturday a weak frontal system will return the slight chance for showers. Another frontal system will be offshore Sunday and move our way.
