An upper level high pressure ridge  (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) continues to move eastward and will increase the moisture flow across the pacific Northwest. A stationary front is straddling the Pacific Northwest. It will be pushed dod though Oregon bringing rain and cooling temperatures again. What looks like another frontal system should be approaching the coast by next Sunday.

A frontal system pushed through bringing the chance of even more rain and another front is behind it with the warm front having past us to the north. The cold front  will move in next. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “ Lifted Index?”  Here is the correct answer. Lifted Index (abbrev. LI)- A common measure of atmospheric instability. Its value is obtained by computing the temperature that air near the ground would have if it were lifted to some higher level (around 18,000 feet, usually) and comparing that temperature to the actual temperature at that level. Negative values indicate instability – the more negative, the more unstable the air is, and the stronger the updrafts are likely to be with any developing thunderstorms. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “ Lifted Index?”  Here is the correct answer. Lifted Index (abbrev. LI)- A common measure of atmospheric instability. Its value is obtained by computing the temperature that air near the ground would have if it were lifted to some higher level (around 18,000 feet, usually) and comparing that temperature to the actual temperature at that level. Negative values indicate instability – the more negative, the more unstable the air is, and the stronger the updrafts are likely to be with any developing thunderstorms.
