high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape in blue arrows) is getting stronger right over us. The high is trapping the hot air over the Pacific Northwest producing the hottest temperatures so far this year. There will be a slight chance of thunderstorms at the peak of the heating Friday night through Sunday evening. Very hot for the USA Track and Field Championships that continue through Saturday. Could even see a thunderstorm Friday and Saturday during the championships. The grass pollen which is high could be a serious problem for the athletes who are allergic.

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is a “debris cloud?” Here is the correct answer. A Debris Cloud is a rotating “cloud” of dust or debris, near or on the ground, often appearing beneath a condensation funnel and surrounding the base of a tornado. This term is similar to dust whirl, although the latter typically refers to a circulation which contains dust but not necessarily any debris. A dust plume, on the other hand, does not rotate. Note that a debris cloud appearing beneath a thunderstorm will confirm the presence of a tornado, even in the absence of a condensation funnel. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.
