Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is  “orographic lifting?” Here is the correct answer. Orographic Lifting is the same as Upslope Flow; it occurs when air is forced to rise and cool due to terrain features such as hills or mountains. If the cooling is sufficient, water vapor condenses into clouds. Additional cooling results in rain or snow. It can cause extensive cloudiness and increased amounts of precipitation in higher terrain. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper level low (Shaded “U” shape with blue arrows) is moving in behind that high which gave us some sunshine Friday. A frontal system will be pushed into Oregon today ushering in more rain. It looks like you could get wet at either of the home football games Saturday whether you are in Autzen Stadium or Reser Stadium. About midweek look for another frontal system will drop down from the northwest bringing even more rain with it.
