An upper level high pressure ridge (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) has taken over keeping the week dry and warmer. We didn’t get quite as warm as I expected Tuesday, but today really did warm up. By Friday this frontal system (position shown is Saturday with another one following) will be approaching the Pacific Northwest. And, of course, a new frontal system shows up offshore next Tuesday.

Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is  “Pancake Ice?” Here is the correct answer. Pancake Ice: In hydrologic terms, circular flat pieces of ice with a raised rim; the shape and rim are due to repeated collisions. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper level trough of low pressure (Shaded area with blue arrows) is moving through and away from Oregon. A frontal system has moved through and brought more showers. Short-lived high pressure (Shaded “Arch” shape with blue arrows) gives us a break today, but another low follows close behind. Here comes yet another frontal system approaching Sunday. By Wednesday this frontal system will be approaching the Pacific Northwest. And, of course, a new frontal system will be located offshore by Friday.
