Here is my weakly weather quiz question for the last time. What is the difference between an average rainbow and an upside-down rainbow? Congratulations to the “Hanson Family Singers” for the answer: “When you see a regular rainbow, the light is going through a raindrop (for example) and out the other side. An upside down rainbow requires “freak” weather to form. It forms when sunlight bounces off ice crystals high in the atmosphere, which sends the sun rays back up. It’s not seen very often.” I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Please post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized  weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

The high pressure ridge ( “Arch” shape) that gave us a beautiful has moved to the East and has been replaced by a low pressure trough (“U” shape) that is moving through Oregon now.  The low pressure trough has brought in even more rain and cool temperatures today with falling mountain snow levels. There is a chance of thunderstorms, but more often we just end up with small hail without the thunderstorms. After a break over the early part of the weekend another cold front should be just offshore next Sunday morning.
