We have a winner! Congratulations to Laurel!

Here is the weather quiz question one more time. In meteorology what does the acronym “ECMWF” stand for and what is its significance? Laurel was the first person to post the correct answer and here it is:”European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) is an independent intergovernmental organisation supported by 19 European Member States and 15 Co-operating States; renowned worldwide as providing the most accurate medium-range global weather forecasts to 15 days and seasonal forecasts to 12 months.” Their computer forecast model is just one of the many that we meteorologists use to forecast your weather. I’ll have another weekly weather quiz question for you again starting next Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized  weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

An upper level trough of low pressure (“U” shape) is moving through the Pacific Northwest, but a series of ripples in that flow will be followed by an even stronger low that will slide along the coast. That will keep us alternating between periods of  clouds and cooler temperatures, and even some light rain or drizzle, then back to some more sunshine and warming temperatures. A frontal system has pushed through the Pacific Northwest spreading showers throughout. Another frontal system approaches the coast Friday AM with clearing and warming behind it for the weekend.
