Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. In meteorology what does the term “diamond dust” refer to? The answer is: “diamond dust” is a term given to a phenomenon in which ice crystals can condense directly from the air into snow flakes and sift earthward from an otherwise clear sky. A very strange sight indeed to see snow flakes falling without any clouds in the sky. I’ll have another weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

An upper level trough of low pressure (“U” shape on orange line) is setting up over the Pacific Ocean bringing more clouds and some cooling early for now into early next week. The Perseid meteor shower peaks through overnight tonight, but the full moon will probably spoil the show. You might want to give it a try anyway. Just make sure you are away from the city lights. A frontal system will approach the coast Sunday and move in Monday bringing the small chance of showers late Sunday night through Monday night. The weather will continue to be perfect for the rest of the Scandinavian Festival in Junction City and for the beginning of the Lane County Fair that starts next Wednesday when another warming trend will begin.
