Here is my weekly weather quiz question one more time. On August 25, 1814 our nation’s capital was in the possession of the British Army. Many public buildings were in flames by the hands of the invading army, but something else caused major structural damage to the residential section of the city. More British soldiers were killed and injured by this event than by the American forces. What happened? Here is the answer. A tornado smashed through the center of Washington, D.C. causing all of that damage. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

A ridge of high pressure (“Arch” shape on orange line) has moved out as a trough of low pressure (“U” shape moving in behind) sends moist cooler air our way. A frontal system is taking its time pushing through and will be followed by others proving that Autumn is really here.
