Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is needed in the stratosphere, but is considered a dangerous pollutant in the lower atmosphere near the earth’s surface? The answer is Ozone. Lack of Ozone in the upper atmosphere (that whole you have now doubt heard of) lets more of the Sun’s dangerous radiation reach the Earth, while on earth Ozone is a pollutant most of which is the product of burning fossil fuels. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

The jet stream has positioned itself to send a strong fetch of moisture to the Pacific Northwest. A frontal system has spread even more rain over Oregon. The rain chance diminishes today and Sunday as weak high pressure slides in for a short visit. Another frontal system will move in to start off the first week of the New Year with even more rain. Mt. Ashland is open today. Hoodoo is open today and Sunday with limited operations. Still not enough snow yet for Willamette Pass to open for skiing. Please check their web sites for the latest details and updates.
