Here is my new weekly weather quiz question. We have had rain and snow but let’s focus on total precipitation which includes rain and melted snow or other frozen precipitation. What US city has the highest normal annual precipitation in inches? Extra credit if you get the right total too. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

Be careful driving during winter storms. Make sure you at least carry chains if you will be driving in the foothills or mountains and be aware that there could be some slippery conditions as far down as the valley floor. You need extra stopping distance when the roadway is slippery. Remember that bridges and overpasses cool down faster than the regular roadway which means that snow could pile up faster and conditions can get icy quicker than on the streets.

An upper level low pressure trough (“U” shape on yellow line) will be moving through and a  surface low and frontal system pushes southward (later than expected) into Oregon for another chance for snow, rain and possible freezing rain. A very wet frontal system will bring some heavy rain to Oregon Thursday. Mt. Ashland is counting on this new storm to improve the  snow conditions so they plan to open Thursday. Hoodoo is open (as usual closed Wednesdays). Willamette Pass reports they are closed as usual today for a Tuesday. Please check the ski resort web sites for the latest details and updates as the new storms could improve the snowpack for skiing.
