Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. Who first used silver iodide to encourage rain to fall from the clouds? Here is the answer. Bernard Vonnegut says he was not trying to modify clouds or anything like that when he discovered that silver iodide can encourage clouds to produce precipitation. He says he was just curious. He was working with Vincent Schaefer who had discovered that dry-ice cloud seeding worked. If his last name sounds familiar his brother is Kurt Vonnegut, the famous writer. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

Advisories:  AN AIR STAGNATION ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM TUESDAY FOR THE CENTRAL AND SOUTH WILLAMETTE VALLEY.

high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape on the yellow line) is taking over bringing back the sunshine through the weekend into early next week. A weak frontal system (position Wednesday, dissipated) moves quickly through the Pacific Northwest and falls apart, but there could still be just barely a slight chance of showers Tuesday through Wednesday.
