Sorry, no winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. We have all heard the word “Eureka” used when someone makes an unexpected discovery. The question is who in history is quoted shouting “Eureka” when he made a discovery and what was the discovery? Here is the answer. The answer is Archimedes. The discovery occurred when he stepped into the bath. He was trying to come up with a way to discover the difference between pure gold and gold that was diluted with silver. What he discovered when he stepped into the bath was that and solid body displaces the same amount of water. That means the pure gold of a specific size would always displace the same amount of water and the diluted gold of the same size would displace a different amount of water. A high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape on the yellow line) is moving eastward away from Oregon as the next trough of low pressure trough (“U” shape on the jet stream) approaches returning the clouds.
