Just in case you missed the announcement Monday, we did have someone post the correct answer to my weekly weather quiz question. Here it is again. What does it mean when flocks of seagulls are seen hanging around the parking lots of schools and grocery stores in the Willamette Valley. Rosemary’s answer: ” When the weather is stormy and the surf is rough, the seagulls come inland to get food.”  My detailed answer: The seagulls move inland on the higher winds ahead of a storm moving onshore. With rough seas and strong winds it is easier for the seagulls to fly eastward and stop off at grocery store parking lots and school parking lots where they can find discarded food scraps. I’ll have a new weather quiz question for you next Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

Advisories: NONE AT THIS TIME.

_______________

An upper air trough of low pressure (“U” shape on the orange line) has increased onshore airflow bringing in more clouds and chances for rain. A closed low (yellow circle) will push southward into California and then slide eastward below Oregon producing a  southerly airflow for the Pacific Northwest keeping the chance of showers around. Another frontal system (position shown is for Monday) will approach the coast Sunday into Monday, but it looks like it will fall apart and bring a chance of showers to the higher elevations only and mostly cloudy skies with just a slight chance of showers to the valley. But, if the front has enough upper air support it could increase the chances of showers for everyone. So be prepared just in case the shower threat increases over the weekend. Please be safe. Don’t drink and drive or boat and drive.
