This week is “Lightning Safety Awareness Week” and the National Weather Service has a special web page just full of things you should know about lightning.

An upper level low (“U” shape on brown line) has moved eastward away from us. It was followed by high pressure that cleared us out and warmed us up. Another trough of low pressure (“U” shape on brown line) has set up along the Pacific Coast returning the slight chance of showers for today and increasing the chance for Saturday. A frontal system is poised to enhance the chance of showers as it moves closer, but it won’t move in until Saturday when the chance for shower increases. Today the Olympic Trials action resumes. The pollen count will stay high enough (moderate levels), with showers stopping and starting, to bother those athletes who are allergic wen it is dry. At least we don’t have smoke from wildfires or grass field burning as we did during the previous Olympic Trials held here.
