No winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is an “occluded front?” here is the answer. An occluded front is produced when a cold front catches up to and overtakes a warm front. For more details click here. I’ll have another weekly weather quiz question for you starting next Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

An upper level low (“U” shape on brown line) set up along the Pacific Coast returning the chance of showers and increasing the chance for today and tonight. A frontal system is falling apart as it tries to slide through Oregon. A high pressure ridge (“Arch” shape on brown line) will move closer to us an that will mean sunshine and dry weather. Sunday is the last day of the Olympic Track and Field Trials. The pollen count will stay high enough, with showers stopping, to bother those athletes who are allergic . At least we don’t have smoke from wildfires or grass field burning as we did during the previous Olympic Trials held here.

The pollen count for the Eugene-Springfield area is:

**Because weather forecasting is a combination of science, intuition, and timing there can be no absolute guarantees that individual forecasts will be 100% accurate. Nature is in a constant state of flux and sudden unexpected weather events can happen.
