An upper air trough of low pressure (“U” shape on the orange line) is pushing eastward as high pressure (“Arch” shape on the orange line) moves over us and switches the onshore airflow to offshore allowing high temperatures to increase to hot for the weekend. A thermal trough of low pressure will stay over the coast and coast range mountains aiding the warming process and helping to produce thunderstorms as it moves to the east.
