Sorry, no winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is the difference between a “dormant” volcano and an “extinct” volcano? Here is the correct answer. An active volcano is a volcano that has had at least one eruption during the past 10,000 years. An active volcano might be erupting or dormant. An erupting volcano is an active volcano that is having an eruption. A dormant volcano is an active volcano that is not erupting, but supposed to erupt again. An extinct volcano has not had an eruption for at least 10,000 years and is not expected to erupt again in a comparable time scale of the future. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper level trough of low pressure coming out of the Gulf of Alaska (shaded “U” shape) is pushing a frontal system at us bringing more rain and wind.  More frontal systems will march through Oregon next week assuring the wet weather will stick around. We’ll have to keep an eye out for flooded streets due to plugged storm drains and keep watching water levels if you live near a river or stream. Mid week will turn to just showery with more intense rain returning late in the week.
