Sorry, no winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is “orographic lifting.” Here is the correct answer. ” Orographic Lifting, same as Upslope Flow; occurs when air is forced to rise and cool due to terrain features such as hills or mountains. If the cooling is sufficient, water vapor condenses into clouds. Additional cooling results in rain or snow. It can cause extensive cloudiness and increased amounts of precipitation in higher terrain.” I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count.

high pressure ridge is taking over and will dry us out as the trough of low pressure (shaded “U ” shape) slides to the south and east. A weak frontal system, that is mainly south of us, will bring a few showers mainly to our south as some showers slide down from the north along the leading edge of the ridge. It won’t be until the middle to the end of next week that another frontal system will move south of us spreading some clouds and rainy weather at us.
