Here is my weekly weather quiz question. What is “orographic lifting?” Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. An upper level trough of low pressure (shaded “U”shape) has moved away from the Pacific Northwest. Now here comes surface high pressure (Blue “H” over the ocean) combined with high pressure aloft (Shaded “Arch” shape moving into Oregon) that will keep us relatively dry until Friday afternoon. A weak surface high pressure area over the Pacific Ocean (position shown is Saturday) will bring  mostly clear skies back for at most of the weekend.
