No winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is “orographic lifting?” Here is the correct answer. Orographic Lifting is the same as Upslope Flow. It occurs when air is forced to rise and cool due to terrain features such as hills or mountains. If the cooling is sufficient, water vapor condenses into clouds. Additional cooling results in rain or snow. It can cause extensive cloudiness and increased amounts of precipitation in higher terrain. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

Upper level high pressure (Shaded “Arch” shape) will bring plenty of sunshine back for rest of the weekend. It looks like high pressure (Blue “H” over the Pacific Ocean and the four corners) will keep all storm away from us through the end of next week.

**Because weather forecasting is a combination of science, intuition, and timing there can be no absolute guarantees that individual forecasts will be 100% accurate. Nature is in a constant state of flux and sudden unexpected weather events can happen.
