Forecast for the Eugene Marathon Sunday: Mostly cloudy with a slight (20%) chance of AM showers with a mix of clouds and sun this afternoon. Temperatures will be near 50 at the start warming to an afternoon high near 69. Without the hot sun it will be a “near perfect” day for a marathon whether you are a fast runner, a slow jogger, a walker, a wheelchair athlete, or a spectator.

Sorry, no winner this week. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. What is “radiational cooling?” Here is the correct answer. Radiational Cooling is the cooling of the Earth’s surface. At night, the Earth suffers a net heat loss to space due to terrestrial cooling. This is more pronounced when you have a clear sky. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

Upper level high pressure (Shaded “Arch” shape) has given us plenty of sunshine and much warmer than normal temperatures, but will change as low pressure (shaded “U” shape) will be dropping down from the Gulf of Alaska.  A cold front will bring a chance of a shower this morning and rain back to Oregon by tonight.
