Sorry, but no winner this week. There were some chuckles out there about this one, but nobody answered it. Here is my weekly weather quiz question for the last time. Please define the term “backdoor cold front.” Here is the correct answer. A Back Door Cold Front is defined as a cold front moving south or southwest along the Atlantic seaboard and Great Lakes; these are especially common during the spring months. Here in the Pacific Northwest it is a cold front that drops down at us from the northeast or north, usually in the winter, spreading much colder air down at us from that unusual angle. I’ll have a new weekly weather quiz question for you starting Monday. Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper level low (Shaded “U” shape, more like a donut), called a closed low because it is cut off from the upper air circulation, has taken over bringing rain and dropping temperatures drastically. This unsettled weather will continue for the rest of the week as the low rotates away from us. It looks like there will  be rain for the rest of the weekend and the Memorial Day Holiday itself with temperatures below seasonal normal, so plan accordingly. It will feel the coldest near or on the water, sorry about that. A frontal system will be approaching the West Coast Wednesday. An upper level trough of low pressure (Shaded “U” shape dropping down through Southern California) will keep us in clouds with a chance of precipitation for the next 7 days.
