Here is my new weekly weather quiz question. What is a “Sun Dog?” Please remember to post your answer as a comment by clicking on “no comments /comments” in the upper right hand portion of this page under the caption, then add your comment. The first person to post the correct answer will win a week of free personalized weather forecasts tailored to your needs. The answer has to be a comment to win. An email answer will not count. Good luck.

An upper level trough of low pressure (shaded “U” shape following the ridge) will move up sitting offshore as a new frontal system slides in Wednesday (position shown is Thursday) bringing us a slight chance of showers. That upper trough will hang around long enough to keep the slight chance of showers around for most of the rest of the week. A weak upper level high (Flat “Arch” shape in blue arrows) will try unsuccessfully to clear us a bit for the weekend as another low (“U” shape) moves in off the Washington and Oregon coasts. So the slight chance of showers will be enhanced by a slight chance of a thunderstorm Saturday afternoon.
